The DVR-MS and MPEG-2 formats are supported on the Ultimate and Premium versions of Windows Vista/7.

Users must keep in mind that this software is limited to exporting video into DV AVI or Windows Media formats.

Editing video clips:

The editing for Windows Movie Maker is incredibly intuitive. In most cases, all you have to do is drag and drop. Movie clips can be split, duplicated and even dragged to other positions. To split the video into two, you’ll need to split the file two times separately, deleting one half and then saving the other and exporting. Then repeat for the other half of the video.

To cut a section of your video when its half way during the video, use the split tool to separate out the section and then highlight and delete.

What is lacking in Windows Live Movie Maker?

Windows Live Movie Maker doesn’t have slow motion effects or 3D effects at this point. You can use the pan and zoom effects on images but you cannot zoom in on a video.Windows Live Movie Maker doesn’t support the most important speed up/slow down effects in this version!You can add effects to existing video, cut and paste and assemble parts of a video into a whole, and add transition effects between elements, but there is no way to speed up the playback. You’ll need a different program to do that.There is presently no way to combine two or more movie projects. You will need to publish one of the projects as a movie and then add that movie to the other project.

Windows Live Movie Maker is still cool as you get support for newer file formats like HD, a new graphics driver model which brings more reliable and stable support for high-end graphics, and a new engine on top of DirectX, which improves speed and enables even more advanced capabilities over time.
